The silver dream experience

Life is great... Just the other day I had a dream and decided to stat digging a little bit more unto the history of SILVER in Mexico. Interesting enough, my curiosity guided me into an invaluable tour around a tiny little town in Mexico called 'The city of light.' I was told by locals that all your dream could come true if you just wished for it with all your heart. The I went to this magic town 'TAXCO, in Guerrero'.

Undoubtedly, the streets were full of this magic metal, everywhere I looked the dream was coming true. My mind was ecstatic by the color and the energy coming from this moment...but that's a story we'll share later.

Let's discover the facts of mining and the silver industry. The history of SILVER in Taxco is a fascinating combination of legend and fact. It's located in the hills between Acapulco and about 100 miles Southwest of Mexico city (3.5 hrs by car). Taxco is part of the state of Guerrero and one of the oldest mining sites in the Americas. Its natural wealth of silver attracted the early CONQUERORS.

Now some facts about the industry in TAXCO:

  1. Between the 1600's and the 1800's Boliva, Peru and Mexico grew to produce about 85% of the worlds silver production.
  2. During Mexico's 19th century war for Independence the Spanish barons destroyed their mines rather than lose them to the revolutionaries, and the art of silver work died out in Taxco for quite some time.
  3. William Spratling, a U.S. citizen, is considered "The Father of Mexican Silver" because he helped to reactivate the jewelry industry by 1931 until his death in 1967.
Did you know that:
* In recent years, the rise of silver has come almost exclusively from investment, or monetary demand.           * In the Period between roughly 1900 and 1970, industrial demand for silver increased over 4 times- from 100 million to 400 million ounces. The industrial revolution in silver was due largely to the urbanization and technological revolutions taking place in the twentieth century life.                                                                  * Silver is used in many industries such as indoor plumbing, electricity, cars, aerospace technology or jewelry among other industrial and social uses.                                                                                              * One of the largest industrial uses came from photography, invented by Frenchmen Nicephore Niecpe in 1822 and made popular by Daguerre in the 1940s, this remained for a long time  the tip of the iceberg in the silver revolution in the industry. .
